As the trend for greener and more sustainable food consumption continues to grow many people are looking towards Alaska cod as a food resource that is sustainable and healthy. In the past the seafood industry has had a history of damaging the environment through unsustainable fish farming methods. The former farm and flee methods has devastated eco systems and communities around the world. This harmful method of farming fish leads to the deterioration in the quality of the water and soil in the surrounding area as all of the toxins emitted by overpopulated tanks seep into the surrounding environment. This process inevitably results in the depreciation of the land and it pollutes the environment. Once these industries corrupt the land they move to a new community, leaving former employees jobless and the land unlivable.
The development of more sustainable wild fishing techniques however has grown, particularly in Alaska where the waters are clean and the fish are healthy and plentiful. The back to the oceans movement of catching wild fish, like Alaska cod, is growing as a viable way to replace the harmful methods of intensive fish farming. As a consumer, you have the power to support an industry that provides fresh and healthy seafood in an environmentally friendly way.
