Fishing Aerator

How often do I use the aerator in my aquarium for my betta?
I haven’t had a fish in a few years, and I just got a new betta today.
I turned on the aerator on, and realized that I have no clue how long to keep it on for. Could someone please tell me? And if you have any tips for caring for a betta, please share 
It’s a one gallon tank.
All the time.
Now go to your local fish store. Go to the filter section. Get a filter sponge…just the sponge. Buy it. Poke a hole in it, about halfway up. Stick it on the end of the air lining tube…like a lollipop.
Viola, sponge filter. Rinse in dechlorinated water once a week.
Next step: getting a bigger tank and a heater. They are tropical fish; keeping them in water that is above or below their ideal temperature range will jeopardize their metabolic and immune systems. A betta in a bowl will probably live about 2 years. A betta in a filtered, heated tank will live 3-5 years, although many keepers have gone beyond that.
